World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.
For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the level of the item increases.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.
Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear, even if they are unsure how much it can be improved upon an update.
The process of upgrading an item can be costly, and it is possible that the item will become obsolete or even break when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items to increase or even eliminate the possibility of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as you can to level 15.
You will often find in the final game that placing Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.
Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and replaced again, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
Each Glyph has a certain range of values it can improve a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. When you have the desired Glyphs, you will have to put them on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that can boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
The use of a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. For example that a Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes, but you should also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.
Leveling
The upgrade system of items allows players to boost the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.
When a player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced with a new item of the same type. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not require it.

In addition, the item will lose any bonuses it gained, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or speed of reload). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase, the increase will be applied before any attack damage increases. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots.
